Heather Vitale is a third-generation member of the harness racing industry, raised in the sport with a deep appreciation for the hands-on experience of working with horses. While her roots began in the barn, she quickly discovered her true strength was in storytelling and promotion, carving out a unique path in harness racing through media and publicity.
Heather also serves as the President of the United States Harness Writers Association, further demonstrating her leadership and influence within the industry.
Known for her vibrant personality and unmistakable on-camera presence, Heather is the host of two popular television programs dedicated to the Standardbred sport: Post Time and PA Harness Week. Post Time airs on the Delmarva Sports Network and WRDE, Delmarva’s NBC affiliate, covering racing at Bally’s Dover, Harrington Raceway, and Ocean Downs. PA Harness Week is broadcast on NBC Sports Philadelphia and highlights racing at Harrah’s Philadelphia and Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.
In addition to her weekly productions, Heather has brought harness racing to a national audience through appearances on CBS Sports, ESPN2, and MAV-TV. Through her strong social media presence, she has traveled extensively across the country, covering some of the sport’s most prestigious events, including the Hambletonian, Breeders Crown, International Trot, and major sales such as the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale and the Harrisburg Sale. She also hosts Harness Racing Update’s annual Twos In Training series, providing insight into how top horses are preparing for the upcoming stakes season.
Her passion for the sport has taken her around the world, with international coverage spanning Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, and New Zealand, further expanding the global reach of harness racing.
Heather’s broadcasting experience also extends into Thoroughbred racing. She appeared on Fox Sports West at Hollywood Park in the late 1990s and has more recently covered major events such as The Bluegrass at Keeneland and the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park through digital platforms.
Outside of racing, Heather is a devoted baseball fan, bringing the same level of enthusiasm and loyalty to the game as she does to the track. That passion for sports, storytelling, and competition shines through in everything she does.
A proud mother of two sons, Wyatt (24) and Trey (18), Heather has earned the nickname “Harness Racing’s Firework” for her bold, energetic interviews and her signature “when in doubt, add glitter” approach. She offers fans a fresh, behind-the-scenes perspective of the sport, paired with an authentic and candid look at her life within it.
Among her many accomplishments, Heather is especially proud of her role in helping bring Foiled Again, the richest harness horse in history, to life as a collectible Breyer model horse.
Her dedication to promoting harness racing has earned her numerous accolades, including two Broadcasting Excellence Awards from the United States Harness Writers Association (USHWA), the Clyde Hirt Media Award from Harness Horsemen International, the 2018 USHWA Member of the Year, and Best Media Video Feature by Harness Racing Victoria for her spotlight on champion pacer Lennytheshark.
